Slate Roof Replacement

The Challenge: The existing roof on this property had seen better days, with old and worn-out hardrow slates and minimal insulation. The homeowner wanted the roof replaced, while also improving the comfort and energy efficiency of their home by adding insulation.

The Solution: Once the plans were agreed with the homeowner, the first step was to strip the old, worn out roof back to the rafters to give us a fresh start.

We then installed new 125mm Kingspan insulation across the whole roof and flat roof dormers before fixing a breathable membrane to the rafters. This allows air to circulate and leave the building while preventing moisture from entering.

From there we fixed 50x25mm treated battens. They allow a longer span and more durable finish than the original battens used on this property, before slating the whole roof using a lovely green slate chosen by the homeowner. They chose this from the variety of options we presented as they liked the look and they complemented both the property and surrounding area.

All of the ridge tiles are dry fixed, meaning there is no sand and cement to worry about maintaining in the future.

The Result: The home has been left with a brand new roof that will help keep the homeowner lovely and warm with the new insulation. They can also have peace of mind knowing the roof is ready to keep the elements at bay for years to come.
